A web site can supplement in-person, hybrid, and DL classes:

For in person classes, a web site can:

• Replace handouts (at least prevent multiple requests)
• Serve up class notes
• Focus and generate discussion

For a hybrid, the web site can serve up assignments. WebCT can do this as well, but with the problems discussed earlier.

For a DL class, the web site is like your office (with WebCT your classroom). The atmosphere is less formal, and many resources are at hand. Samples of student work may be on display. There are pictures of places you've been. Interesting news clippings are strewn across your desk. A three day old peanut butter sandwich mildews beneath some essays....
