Distance Teaching
Three Rivers Professional Day - 1/18/2001
On-line learning actions:
"Do" is a catch-all verb. Students can learn from doing any number of things (beyond sitting in the classroom or staring at their monitors).
Distance learning students will attend your class from all over the state (or even the world). There is much they can go and see near their homes.
Collect data, specimens, photos, URLs, ideas....
Create and design are high level learning activities. Students can create drawings, diagrams, programs, ice sculptures, murals, new systems of thought.
Writing is an essential part of learning and teaching, especially on-line.
Reading is still valuable, even today.
A treasure hunt can be done on the Internet or in the non-virtual world.
Students learn from experts and ordinary folks. Give them the questions. Or better yet, let them devise their own.
